How to varnish an oil painting - demonstration
In this video I varnish an oil painting. It is a 100x100cm painting of a leopard and I called it “ingwe” the zulu word for leopard. I have already oiled out the painting using Galkyd from Gamblin. This gives a relatively even shine to the painting even before varnishing and will help to make sure that the surface is perfect after varnishing. The video is a demonstration of the varnishing process with lots of tips that I have learned over the years (I am still learning…😁). I used Gamvar (matte) varnish from Gamblin. The video goes through the varnishing process from start to finish and the tips given along the way will hopefully help somebody to varnish a painting successfully without having to learn everything the hard way like I did!👍🏻
