Fabian Kern has been a game warden for the city of Zurich for eight years. The hunter and former police officer constantly finds himself caught between the needs of city dwellers and the growing wildlife population. But the forest makes up a quarter of the city's area. Fabian Kern sometimes has to intervene by hunting. This year, approximately 150 deer have to be shot. But protecting many animals is also part of his job. He has to protect a badger family from sewer construction, nesting birds from roof renovations, or free a stray grass snake from a shaft. He must adapt to the animals' rhythms. Often his work is invisible: he's out alone, and at night.
