If your water softener is leaking to the drain, or if it is stuck in a cycle, it’s time to replace the piston and seal pack. This is a pretty simple job, and should be easy for most DIYers. The only tool needed is a flathead screwdriver. This video is a step by step overview, of replacing a water softeners piston, seal pack and brine valve. I am working on a Fleck 5600 SXT valve, but this procedure will be similar for other water softener brands.
