The Sagami branch shrine of Izumo Taisha Shrine was founded in 1888 (21st year of the Meiji era) when, at the request of Lord Senge Takafuku, the 80th kuni no miyatsuko (local governor) of Izumo Taisha Shrine, located in Shimane Prefecture, Kusayama Sadatane, a long-time local priest and revered as the "father of Hadano tobacco," enshrined a branch of the spirit of Izumo no Okami here, making it a key location for spreading the divine virtue of Okuninushi no Mikoto throughout the Kanto region.
