Exploring the Hidden Railroad Structures Near Weisburg, Indiana & the Weird Note Found in the Woods

www.HistoryInYourOwnBackyard.com [email protected] 812-623-5727 In May of 2022 I took a hike down along the railroad tracks from Weisburg, Indiana to Easter Ridge Road about 3 miles southeast of Weisburg. I did some exploring along the way and found a few things that most people didn’t know about. First off a little background information on the town of Weisburg. The town was laid out in 1858 and was named after Phillip Weis a local mill owner. At one time the town of Weisburg was a major center of activity in the northern section of Dearborn County. Once home to a hotel, train depot, a mill and grain business, a post office, two stores, a blacksmith shop and several saloons. Weisburg had a one room school house which burned in 1940. A set of railroad tracks runs directly through town and at one time there were two sets of tracks. In the early 1900s a spark from a steam locomotive ignited a fire in Wesiburg which consumed several buildings. Today Weisburg is technically a Level 4 Ghost Town. All of the businesses are gone and only a few homes remain. Now that you know a little about Weisburg, lets go exploring.
