[History] The Tanabata Sho was established in 1965 as a Grade 3 handicap race for horses aged 3 and up, held at Fukushima Racecourse over 1,800 meters on turf during the summer. After several changes in conditions and timing, since 1980 it has been held at Fukushima Racecourse over 2,000 meters on turf during the summer. Furthermore, it has been designated as a qualifying race for the "Summer 2000 Series," established in 2006 to further enhance summer horse racing.
