In this project, we will restore a Sony GPX7 Mini System, showcasing its circuit boards, speakers, and enclosures, along with customizations to enhance its appearance and functionality. 🎶 🛒 Acquisition and Motivation Although I have already made videos about this model, I had the opportunity to acquire this unit at an affordable price, which motivated me to create another restoration project. The goal is to share more details about its structure, from internal boards to speaker construction. 📦 🔍 Initial Diagnosis Before starting the restoration, some issues were identified: ❌ The speaker LEDs do not light up; 🧼 Speakers are extremely dirty; ⚙️ Some components show marks and signs of wear; 🏚️ Internal boards have significant dirt accumulation. Based on these points, we planned the best way to clean and repair the system. 🖥️ Exploring the Internal Boards The GPX7 Mini System has several essential boards: 📟 Control board: responsible for the overall operation of the device; 🔌 USB and P10 input board: crucial for connecting external devices; ⚡ Power board: provides energy to the system; 🔊 Audio output board: essential for sound transmission; 🎇 RCA and LED connection board; 💿 CD reader board: critical for disc playback. Disassembly revealed the need for deep cleaning and minor adjustments to ensure proper functionality. 🛠️ Speaker Box Disassembly and Analysis Disassembling the speaker boxes allowed us to examine the internal construction and measure the components: 🔩 The speaker was secured with four screws but tightly fastened within the structure; 📢 The sealed chamber and internal reinforcements showed a well-thought-out construction; 🪵 The wood used is not the most durable, but the overall structure was surprisingly solid. 📏 Speaker Measurements To better understand the speaker configuration, measurements were taken: 🔈 Tweeter: 54.4 mm in diameter and 22.1 mm in thickness; 🔊 Main speakers: 100 mm and 99.3 mm, with thickness varying between 31.5 mm and 32.8 mm. These measurements help understand the Mini System's capacity and potential replacement parts. 🎨 Customization and Improvements After restoration, several customizations were made: ✨ Chrome trim on the speakers, matching the original central unit finish; 📦 Locking corner pieces on the top and bottom for greater stability; 🛡️ Rubberized PVC corner pieces on the sides and back for protection; 🧹 Wire organizer, preventing mess and breakage; 💡 Replaced the faulty LED connector.
