Ghana Floods: At Least 12 Killed as Torrential Rains Submerge Accra | Firstpost Africa
Deadly floods have devastated parts of Ghana after torrential rains inundated the capital, Accra, and surrounding areas, killing at least 12 people and forcing hundreds to flee. The Ghana National Fire Service said more than 400 people have been rescued as emergency teams continue evacuation and relief operations. The flooding has submerged roads, homes, and vehicles, cutting off access to parts of Accra and the neighbouring city of Tema. President John Mahama has deployed the military and police to assist rescue efforts and released emergency funds for relief and flood mitigation. He said Accra received around 140 millimetres of rain in a single day—the highest rainfall recorded in several years. Meanwhile, neighbouring Ivory Coast and Nigeria are also battling deadly floods caused by heavy rainfall. Alyson Le Grange tells you more Firstpost Africa.
