Will De-dollarisation do more harm than good?

This debate was held at the 23rd Annual edition of the Warwick Economics Summit in 2024. The debate was be moderated by Dr Yemi Kale. Dr Joeri Schasfoort and Dr Luis Oganes argued for the motion while Rt Hon Sir Vince Cable and Professor Robert Wade argued against the motion. On several occasions, he has participated in advisory projects with governments and quasi-sovereign entities in Latin America, the Middle East and Asia. Dr Joeri is an Economist and a Digital Media Entrepreneur who stands at the forefront of making complex economic concepts accessible to a broader audience. Money & Macromedia operates a the popular YouTube channel 'Money & Macro', with over 400k subscribers and over 25 million views. Oppositions: Rt Hon Sir Vince Cable, Former Secretary of State for Business and Trade, is currently a distinguished fellow at the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and a Professor in practice at the London School of Economics. He is also the author of ‘Money and Power’, ‘The Chinese Conundrum’, ‘Partnership and Politics in a Divided decade’, and ‘How to be a Politician’. Professor Wade, professor of global political economy at the LSE, has worked at the Institute of Development Studies, the World Bank, Princeton, MIT, Brown. His ‘book Governing the Market’ was awarded Best Book in Political Economy by the American Political Science Association, and he was awarded the Leontief Prize in Economics in 2008.
