The Neverending Downfall of King Aethelred 'the Unready'

This is the first video in a series where I will chronologically cover the gradual demise of Anglo-Saxon England throughout the later tenth and eleventh centuries. This video features the life and reign of King Æthelred 'the Unready', and his neverending failures over several decades to deal with the reinvigorated viking threat, finally being brought down twice by the kings of Denmark, who found great support amongst the English nobility which grew to despise their ruler. This video discusses what went wrong for Æthelred, and how he successfully engineered his own downfall(s) through his schemes to befriend and/or wipe out the Danes in England, and the ultimately futile 1016 campaign launched by his son Edmund 'Ironside' to retake the kingdom, whose failure paved the way for King Cnut's North Sea Empire.
