Zoncolan (Ovaro) - Italy's most difficult? - Indoor Cycling Training
The climb to Monte Zoncolan from Ovaro is by many regarded as one of the most difficult in Italy, if not the world. You can find steeper climbs, but it is the long steep sections of 18-20 % gradients that make this ride difficult. The Giro has used this climb many times. Stage winner Gilberto Simoni describes it with the following words: “It’s like a slow execution; the easiest part of the Zoncolan is harder than the most difficult at the Tour”. This is the ride of legends, and along the road, you will find signs celebrating cyclists such as Hinault, Indurain, Coppi, Pantani, Moser, and Saronni. Many will need a very low gearing to finish this ride, and it is not unusual to see mountain bikes on this climb. The Flamme Rouge (the last kilometer) is a difficult as the rest of the ride. It starts with a few narrow tunnels followed by a nice serpentine road that takes you to the very top of Monte Zoncolan. You can find the route on Strava: / strava Take your indoor cycling to the next level and bike the world at your own speed: Dive into an immersive indoor cycling experience with our training app ’Open Road’ for PC. But when it comes to music, opinions are very mixed. This is why we have added no music and why we recommend adding your favorite music to the ride. It is quite simple. Mute YouTube and open a browser window. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, YouTube, etc…) and pick the music you like, and enjoy the ride... The original sound of the ride has been left out. This is because the natural sound of the surroundings is drowned by noise from passing cars, vibrations from the road, wind, and the rider's breathing.
