The 102nd Tokyo-Hakone Round-Trip College Ekiden Race (Hakone Ekiden) took place on January 2nd, with the outbound leg held on January 3rd. Finishing in 20th place on the outbound leg, the men's track and field team of the University Athletic Association's track and field club worked hard to catch up with the leaders in the hopes of making a comeback on the return leg. However, at the Tsurumi relay station connecting the 9th and 10th legs, they fell just 47 seconds short, resulting in a disappointing early start. Although they were unable to pass the sash directly, Aine Suzuki (2nd year, School of Business Administration), who was assigned to run the final 10th leg, sprinted to the finish line in Otemachi with Rikkyo pride in her heart. She placed 20th overall with a time of 11 hours, 5 minutes, and 58 seconds, but finished 18th on the return leg with a time of 5 hours, 32 minutes, and 53 seconds.
