NAZARET, BASILICA DELL'ANNUNCIAZIONE - Hic Verbum caro factum est | Documentario

In Nazareth, in the heart of the Holy Land, the Gospel takes shape in history and in stone: it is here that Mary spoke her "yes" to the angel (Luke 1:26-38), beginning the mystery of the Incarnation—Verbum caro factum est. In this silent and decisive place, Saint Joseph guarded the Holy Family, and Jesus grew "in wisdom, age, and grace" (Luke 2:52), living the daily life that would prepare him for his public mission. Through biblical texts and the most recent archaeological research, the biblical scholars and archaeologists of the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum, together with the Franciscan Friars of the Custody of the Holy Land, accompany the viewer on a journey between faith and science, revealing Nazareth as a living part of that "Fifth Gospel" that continues to speak to the hearts of believers. An experience that informs, engages, and invites you to set out, like so many pilgrims who, after visiting these places, feel a profound desire to return. "Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you! Blessed are you among women. Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and of his kingdom there will be no end. The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. 'For with God nothing will be impossible. Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.'" (Luke 1:26-38) In Nazareth, some of the most beautiful pages of the Gospel come to mind: the Annunciation, first of all; the return of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus after the flight into Egypt; The childhood and youth of Jesus, who grew here in wisdom, age, and grace before God and men, and where he lived until the beginning of his public life. Here in Nazareth, Mary Most Holy received the Annunciation of the Angel and said her "yes," that human "yes" that opened the doors to the Divine in humanity, which is the incarnation of the Word. "Verbum caro factum est." In Nazareth, together with the Virgin Mary, we also remember Saint Joseph, the foster father of the family of Nazareth, designated by the Almighty to guard, welcome, and form the Son of God in daily life. The Holy Land has been called the Fifth Gospel, and so it is. With the four Gospels in hand, we can travel the paths of this land and discover, at the end of our pilgrimage, that we feel more engaged with the Gospel accounts, closer to our Lord Jesus. This is the experience of many faithful who have come to the Holy Land. Many desire to return. Why? Because they immersed themselves in the Fifth Gospel, visited, prayed, and celebrated the Eucharist in the holy places, and they left carrying in their hearts the indelible memory of those moments that forever marked their lives. Therefore, this testimony is alive, speaks to our hearts, engages us, and transforms us. The Studium Biblicum Franciscanum (SBF) is a scientific institution for research and academic teaching of Sacred Scripture and the archaeology of biblical lands. The two specialization programs, the Licentiate and Doctorate in Biblical Sciences and Archaeology, are located at the Convent of the Flagellation. The Studium Theologicum Jerosolymitanum, the first cycle of theology, is connected to the SBF. It is located at the Convent of San Salvatore and includes a two-year program in philosophy held in the same school.
