It is believed that Lord Kamrunag wanted to participate in the great battle of the Mahabharata. He was the most powerful warrior on earth. But he was defeated by Lord Krishna's strategy. He had promised to support the Kauravas and Pandavas whose army was losing. But Lord Krishna knew that if he supported the Kauravas in this way, the Pandavas would not be able to win. Shri Krishna defeated him on a condition and demanded his head in return. But Kamrunag expressed his desire to witness the Mahabharata war. So Lord Krishna took his severed head to a high peak in the Himalayas. However, as his head turned, the army began to move towards victory. Then Lord Krishna tied his head to a stone and turned it towards the Pandavas. So that Bhima would not face any water problems, Bhima buried his palm here and created a lake. It is also said that offering gold and silver in this lake fulfils wishes. People offer any jewellery they have on their body to the lake. It is full of wealth. This gold and silver is never taken out of the lake because it belongs to the gods. It is also believed that this lake goes directly to the underworld, containing the treasure of the gods. Every year, on June 14th and 15th, Kamrunag Ji appears to devotees. The lake is located in a dense forest and no priest lives there during these days. It also receives a lot of snow. Cultural and Religious Significance Kamrunag Lake has great religious and spiritual significance. The temple of Kamrunag Dev, located on the banks of the lake, is one of the most visited temples in Mandi district. According to Hindu legends, Yaksha (the god of wealth) resided here.
