Müssen wir den Kapitalismus aufgeben, um das Klima zu retten? | Sternstunde Philosophie | SRF Kultur

Banking crisis, climate crisis, debt crisis – a coincidence or a veritable systemic crisis? The call for a radical reorientation, even the abolition of capitalism, is increasingly heard. Is this demand justified or naive? A debate. Capitalism has been a blessing in many ways: It has brought democracy and prosperity and lifted millions of people out of poverty. Business journalist Ulrike Herrmann and political philosopher Katja Gentinetta agree on this. Gentinetta therefore sees no reason to abandon capitalism. While the climate crisis makes it clear that resources must be used more sparingly, Gentinetta relies on innovation, increased efficiency, and green growth to achieve this. Herrmann, whose book "The End of Capitalism" has stormed the bestseller lists, is pessimistic, however: Capitalism is based on growth, and growth is necessarily linked to fossil fuels. Alternative energies will not be available in sufficient quantities early enough to bring about the green transition without fundamental systemic change. So is it all a question of trust in human innovation? Or in the lessons of history? Doesn't the Credit Suisse debacle show that we need to fundamentally discuss systemic issues? Barbara Bleisch meets the two experts for a debate. Topics in this episode: 00:00 Is the banking crisis a symptom of a fundamental crisis? 23:00 Can there be green growth? 41:00 Do we need a kind of war economy? 50:00 How do we get out of the crisis? 🔔 Subscribe to SRF Kultur Sternstunden now on YouTube 👉 https://www.youtube.com/srfkultur?sub...
