Ever planned a perfect island getaway, only to realize your flight and boat schedules are working against you? That was exactly what happened on our Redang Island trip. This March, during Ramadan / Buka Puasa month, my wife and I visited Redang Island right after it reopened following the monsoon season. We booked the 3D2N Early Bird Snorkeling Package at Laguna Redang Island Resort, staying in a Superior Garden Room for RM1,616 total. Sounds simple, right? Not quite. The biggest travel trap was the transfer timing. Our AirAsia flight landed in Kuala Terengganu at 2:30 PM, but Laguna Redang’s boat transfers from Merang Jetty were only at 9:45 AM and 11:45 AM. If you miss those, your next option is a private speedboat, which can cost RM200+. We decided not to do that, so we stayed two extra days in Kuala Terengganu to make the schedule work. Unexpected bonus: we got to explore KT city, Kampung Cina, Pasar Kedai Payang, local cafes, and the Ramadan bazaar. Another thing to avoid: the RM40 hotel-to-jetty transfer. We booked it because we were worried Grab might not be reliable in Terengganu. Turns out, Grab was easy to get. On the way back, we paid only RM11. Lesson learned. But once we reached Redang and stepped into that crystal-clear post-monsoon water, all the planning headaches disappeared. This was our first time snorkeling, and floating above the reefs was honestly magical. The water was clear, the marine life was beautiful, and the whole experience made us fall in love with the underwater world.
