Ebony Splined Box
In this video I make a box out of Australian Red Cedar with Ebony and Huon Pine splines in the mitred corners. The box is made up of 39 individual pieces of timber with brass hardware, black leather covering on the inside base and felt on the bottom. The box is 370mm wide by 260mm deep and 115mm high. It took a week to make and my wife Jo decided to keep this one. Until I make the next one I assume. Australian Red Cedar is native to the mid North Coast of NSW and was almost milled to extinction in the 1800-1900s. It was called red gold and was originally transported by bullock teams and cut by hand. Ships returning to England would fill their hulls with cedar as ballast for the return trip. It is an outstanding timber to work with and has a beautiful grain pattern. #woodworking #woodwork #furniture making Credit - "Music: www.bensound.com"
