Queer Saints Review

Queer Saints by Antonio Pagliarulo aims to redefine sainthood by elevating queers icons to “Spiritual Rock Stars”. Catholic saints, long suspected of being queer, are explored archetypally and highlighted for their patronage of queer identities & communities. The book is mostly a compendium of queers saints, following a similar format: Name, patronage, blurb about their relationship to queerness, a spell or ritual, and some magical associations, usually an offering and a tarot card. In between lists of saints, the author takes time to define and redefine 2 core concepts: Sainthood & Queerness. Examining the fluidity of both by drawing on pop culture figures that feel contemporary to the reader.
