Turn on Subtitle [CC] Explore Toyama in spring, one of Japan’s most peaceful and underrated travel destinations. In this video, I travel through Toyama Prefecture during sakura season, visiting beautiful cherry blossom spots, historical areas, coastal scenery, local trains, and quiet rural neighborhoods. Toyama is located on the Sea of Japan side and is known for its unique combination of ocean, mountains, rivers, local culture, and modern city life. From Tokyo, Toyama is easy to access by Hokuriku Shinkansen, but the atmosphere feels completely different from big cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, or Osaka. It is calmer, more spacious, and surrounded by nature. The journey begins in Toyama City, where I visit the Toyama Glass Art Museum and walk through the city while enjoying sakura along the streets. I also explore Toyama Castle and the Matsukawa River area, one of the famous cherry blossom spots in Toyama. During sakura season, the river cruise is a popular way to enjoy hanami from the water, with cherry trees lining both sides of the river. I also visit Kansui Park, a relaxing waterside park near Toyama Station. This park is famous for its beautiful canal view and its well-known Starbucks location. From the park, you can enjoy open scenery and, on a clear day, views of the Tateyama Mountain Range. On the second day, I explore the Takaoka region, including Zuiryuji Temple and Takaoka Old Castle Park. Zuiryuji is one of Takaoka’s most important historical places, while the old castle park is filled with sakura during spring, making it a great place for a peaceful walk. The trip continues to Amaharashi Coast, one of Toyama’s most scenic coastal spots. Amaharashi is famous for its view of Toyama Bay, Onnaiwa Rock, and the Tateyama Mountain Range across the sea. Although the mountains were not visible during this visit because of haze, the coastal atmosphere, sea view, and Roadside Station Amaharashi still made the place worth visiting. This video is also about slow travel, local Japan, rural lifestyle, and the feeling of exploring places beyond the usual tourist route. Toyama offers a different side of Japan: quiet, beautiful, local, and deeply connected to nature.
