Juvenile knew Lil Wayne was going to be huge before anyone else - Bullseye with Jesse Thorn
Juvenile, the rapper, was taking home a steady paycheck as an MC before he even graduated high school. Though his debut record, Being Myself, was received well in his hometown of New Orleans, his breakthrough record, 400 Degreez, dropped in 1998 when he was signed to Cash Money Records. The record includes his greatest hits, like the title track “400 Degreez,” “Ha,” and “Back That Thing Up.” This season of Juvenile’s career was energized by his breakout performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk. Earlier this year, Juvie released Boiling Point - his first album is over a decade. He joins Bullseye to talk about touring with a live band, choosing to make party records, and auditioning for Cash Money Records from the backseat of a car. 00:00 Intro 01:05 Touring in 2026 08:48 Record deal as a teen 18:41 Recording for Cash Money 24:53 Lil Wayne 33.26 Entertaining and being a rapper 41:33 Outro Want to hear more?
