Finding Walt Disney's Nine Old Men: Creating Animation History
Hi there Mouseketeers, welcome to the Disneyland Beat, where our toes tap to a Disneyland Beat where our toes tap to a Disneyland drum and we always whistle while we work. Please subscribe to our channel! Today we try something different! With the extra time at home we just finished reading Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston's definitive work, Disney Animation: The Illusion of Life. We highly recommend this incredible work which at once explores the history of animation at Disney and discusses and teaches design and animation fundamentals and principles in depth. We got so interested in the subject matter we wanted to create a video about the "Nine Old Men" the animators who became the leaders of the studio, hired to create Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. That they did and to great acclaim and success. There are many unsung heroes of Disney that we don't hear as much about, and it is true that opportunity was not equal when the company was born. Nonetheless, the artistic contributions of these nine men are substantial and their art is moving, emotional and memorable! We hope you enjoy this look at Walt Disney's Nine Old Men.
