ANATOMY People often feel stiff when they wake up in the morning because during sleep, the body's muscles and joints tend to be in a relaxed and stationary position for several hours. Muscles can become tight and tense, while the synovial fluid which helps to lubricate large joints like your knees and hips, can become thick and congealed.
