First announced during the Nintendo Direct on June 18, 2024, it is the eighteenth (twenty-sixth, including arcade games) installment in the Mario Party series, the thirteenth released on a home console, and the third released for the Nintendo Switch. Serving as a successor to Super Mario Party, albeit with gameplay mostly modeled after Mario Party Superstars, the game features both new and returning boards, in addition to over 110 minigames, new modes, and an expansive roster of 22 playable characters, including newcomers Ninji and Pauline. It is also the first game in the Super Mario franchise to feature Kevin Afghani as the voice of Waluigi, succeeding Charles Martinet. A playable demo of the game was available at the Nintendo booth during PAX West 2024 prior to its release, from August 30 to September 2, 2024. A second demo was made available to play in-stores from October 4, 2024.
