Around Lake Garda, Cycling Tour 334 km, 3110 m elevation gain, 5 stages Lake Garda is always worth a visit, not just for cycling enthusiasts. In glorious, albeit hot, weather, we completed the suggested cycling tour in 5 days. Not only for convenience, but also to fully enjoy the beautiful, charming region, our luggage was transported to our pre-booked hotels – thanks to Radweg-Reisen and Euro-Bike. This allowed us to travel with only light day packs and plan our own route and stops. The entire route is well signposted, and you enjoy cycling through meadows and forests, but above all through beautiful Mediterranean scenery. Up and down hills without any major exertion. If it weren't for the Ponale, however, many horror stories had instilled a healthy respect for this section. In fact, it's a very beautiful ride, but you should be reasonably fit. The route starts off gently, along the cliffs rising on the right and dropping steeply on the left, leading to the shores of Lake Garda. The views of the lake below are magnificent at every turn. Only in the last third of the 15 km long "Ponale" does the road become steep, offering good, firm ground, partly paved, and concrete in the sharp bends. A highlight of the tour, it's no wonder the "Ponale" is considered the most beautiful panoramic road in Europe. Those who don't wish to drive this route can take the hotel shuttle bus to Lake Ledro. The charming little villages and towns around the lake invite you to linger and enjoy an espresso or some of the region's renowned wines. In conclusion: A beautiful tour through a Mediterranean landscape that offers plenty of variety. Since the actual driving time is usually 3 to 4.5 hours, there's ample time to explore or relax.
