KAMPUNG NAGA - TASIKMALAYA | Hidup Tanpa Listrik - Kampung Tradisional Sunda

Kampung Naga is administratively located in Neglasari Village, Salawu District, Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java Province. Kampung Naga is located not far from the highway connecting Garut City with Tasikmalaya City. This village is situated in a fertile valley, bordered to the west by a sacred forest, where the ancestral graves of the Kampung Naga community are located. To the south are rice paddies, and to the north and east are the Ciwulan River, which is fed by Mount Cikuray in the Garut area. The distance from Tasikmalaya City to Kampung Naga is approximately 30 kilometers, while from Garut City it is 26 kilometers. To reach Kampung Naga from the Garut-Tasikmalaya highway, you must descend a set of steps (Sundanese: sengked) to the banks of the Ciwulan River, which slopes at a 45-degree incline for approximately 500 meters. Then, a footpath follows the Ciwulan River to Kampung Naga. According to data from Neglasari Village, the terrain in Kampung Naga is hilly and the soil is considered fertile. Kampung Naga covers one and a half hectares, most of which is used for housing, yards, ponds, and the remainder for rice paddies, which are harvested twice a year. The name Kampung Naga may sound like a Chinatown, as the dragon is synonymous with Chinese culture. However, Kampung Naga in Tasikmalaya has nothing to do with Chinese customs. The name 'naga' is not related to a type of animal or fruit. It originates from the area's location at the bottom of a hill or in a valley. Sundanese people often refer to such places as 'dina gawir'. The word 'dina' refers to the place, while 'gawir' means valley or ravine. However, Sundanese people often pronounce it as 'na gawir', hence the abbreviation 'naga'. (www.detik.com) Religion and Knowledge Systems The residents of Kampung Naga all profess to be Muslim. Quran recitation lessons for children in Kampung Naga are held on Monday and Thursday evenings, while for parents, they are held on Friday nights. To fulfill the fifth pillar of Islam, the Hajj, they believe there is no need to travel all the way to Mecca; instead, they simply perform the Hajat Sasih ceremony, which coincides with the Eid al-Adha holiday, every 10th of Rayagung (Dzulhijjah). According to the beliefs of the Kampung Naga community, this Hajat Sasih ceremony is synonymous with Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr. The houses of the Kampung Naga community are built on stilts, made of bamboo and wood. Roofs must be made of nipah palm leaves, palm fiber, or reeds, and floors made of bamboo or wooden planks. Houses must face north or south, extending east and west. Walls are made of bamboo or woven bamboo with sasag weaving. Houses must not be painted, except with whitewash or dimeni. Bricks cannot be used as building materials, even if they are capable of constructing a brick house or a building (gedong). Houses may not be furnished with furniture, such as chairs, tables, and beds. Houses may not have doors in opposite directions. According to the belief of the Kampung Naga community, good fortune entering through the front door will not exit through the back door. Therefore, when installing doors, they always avoid having doors aligned in a straight line. The ancestral arts of the Kampung Naga community include terbangan, angklung, beluk, and rengkong. Beluk is now rarely performed, while rengkong is no longer known, especially among the younger generation. However, Kampung Naga residents who wish to watch wayang (wayang) performances, pencak silat (pencak silat), and other performances are permitted to perform these arts outside the Kampung Naga area. Another taboo is observed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. The Kampung Naga community is prohibited from discussing the customs and origins of the Kampung Naga community. The Kampung Naga community deeply respects Eyang Sembah Singaparna, the ancestor of the Kampung Naga community. Meanwhile, in Tasikmalaya, there is a place called Singaparna. The people of Kampung Naga call it Galunggung, because the word Singaparna is close to the ancestral name of the Kampung Naga people.
