Is a Tesla Model 3 with a roof rack and two bikes suitable for long-distance travel? In this article, I put it to the test during an Easter trip from Milton Keynes, UK, to Carinthia, Austria. This is the first part of a report on a route spanning over 1,500 km. Along the way, I travel through Great Britain, cross the English Channel by ferry, visit France, Belgium, and Luxembourg, and then reach the German border in the Alsace region. The Tesla Model 3 is equipped with a 500-liter roof rack and two bikes, including one for children. I examine how this setup affects travel comfort, energy consumption, range, and charging frequency. Difficult weather conditions—rain, strong winds, and temperatures hovering around 5°C—add an additional challenge.
