Welcome to Imperial Dub Recordings Volume 2. Our brother Doc Martin has done an excellent job of selecting and mixing what he appropriately calls; songs about love and understanding. Some say a DJ mix cd oughta be all one thing and be flawlessly edited into a seamless piece. Not so in our book. While Doc is far and away the most important American DJ, traveling all over the world on a mission to bring his vision of house music to house people everywhere. Mixing, collaborating, producing, remixing, and grooving on a tireless schedule, sometimes I wonder how he does it. Even with my busy schedule, I am always in awe of my friend Doc and his ability to call us from the airport in London and say "I'll be in SF tomorrow night, wanna work on a track?" The magic of a DJ and a pair of turntables is always more inspiring to me than any digitally edited compilation. Regardless of what more beardy types might say, the clicks, pops, and twists of the spindle are as musical to house people as the records themselves. Doc's work herein takes us on a journey through the last year of Imperial Dub Recordings. From live African percussion (nearly unmixable by ordinary standards) through tightly syncopated minimal techno to the signature Imperial Dub groovy/busy beats and dense melodies Doc's heart and soul are here, feeling, flowing, and speaking through our records and his powerful craft. We are honored to offer this mix cd to you. Peace and love, Sunshine Jones Winter 1999, San Francisco
