Gilgit Shandur Road Expressway | New CPEC Alternative Includes Tajikistan Too | Sun LO Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), work is underway on seven projects of industry, energy and infrastructure in Gilgit-Baltistan, one of which is the 216KM Gilgit Shandur Road also known as Gilgit Shandur Expressway. It connects Karakoram Highway to main roads and is a CPEC alternate route and people are calling it Gilgit Shandur Chitral Road too and it even includes Tajikstan. About two years ago, the federal government also approved the construction of a road from Chakdara to Chitral, Chitral to Shandur and Shandur to Gilgit. The journey from Gilgit to Chitral is about 372 kilometers, that is, it is like traveling from Lahore to Rawalpindi Islamabad. There are many attractions to enjoy on the road including heli safari service for tourists at the Shandur Polo Festival this year.
