AACG Fired Up!, Morgan Madison, kiln formed glass & mixed media art, 4-19-22
Seattle-based artist Morgan Madison, who works in kiln formed glass and other media, discusses his career as an artist and educator. Whether he is creating new work or teaching glass-making techniques to students around the world, Madison embraces color and curiosity and welcomes the participation of chance in these endeavors. He combines glass and other materials in his work, because they have varying strengths and characteristics that impart a richness to the creative process and generate vibrancy and depth through their interactions. This approach to materials is intertwined with Madison’s visual language, which is derived from place. Key to his practice is the search for elements that stand out among the clamor of the built and natural environments around us. These resonant elements hold great creative potential and reveal glimpses of the stories underneath the surface.
