I drove it with mixed feelings. BMW used grandiose terms like "Neuer Klasse" and "A New Era." However, my opinion changed after driving it. BMW wasn't making those claims for nothing. The new BMW iX3 is not just another run-of-the-mill SUV with a battery. From its driving philosophy and interior interface to its charging system, it is a car designed from the ground up as a new BMW. It boasts a drag coefficient of 0.24, a maximum range of 611 km on a single charge (based on domestic certification standards), support for 400kW ultra-fast charging via BMW's first 800V architecture, 250 km of range with a 10-minute charge, and takes just 21 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. While the numbers are hard to believe at first glance, you realize once you actually operate the electric vehicle that these aren't just numbers for the spec sheet. When you sit in the driver's seat, the BMW Panoramic iDrive unfolds. It features a panoramic vision spanning the entire windshield, a 3D head-up display, and a central display tilted 17.5 degrees toward the driver. BMW’s catchphrase, "Hands on the wheel, eyes on the road," is realized not just in words, but in hardware. The vehicle boasts 469 horsepower, 65.8 kg·m of torque, and a 0-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds. More important than the numbers is the driving control system called "Heart of Joy," which integrates acceleration, steering, and braking into a single system for real-time control. Rather than the heavy, simple acceleration typical of electric vehicles, the "joy of driving" that BMW speaks of is actually felt in the electric powertrain.
