The unknowability of Solar Radiation Management, and why that matters
We are delighted to welcome Daniel Schrag, Sturgis Hooper Professor of Geology, Professor of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University. His lecture will explore the possibilities and uncertainties surrounding Solar Radiation Management, and why they matter for science, policy, and society. Named a MacArthur Fellow in 2000, Professor Schrag has previously served on President Obama’s Council of Advisors for Science and Technology, and as Director of the Harvard University Center for the Environment. Professor Schrag's work focuses on climate change, energy technology, and energy policy. He helped develop the 'Snowball Earth' hypothesis, proposing that periods of extreme global glaciation may have contributed to rising atmospheric oxygen and the emergence of multicellular animals. His energy research includes non-fossil energy systems, low-carbon transportation, carbon capture and storage, and shale gas risks and opportunities.
