Hosted by reporter and veteran Jack Smith. This is the episode: “War in the Skies.” The air power in the Vietnam War was greater than in any war in U.S. history. Flying "low and slow," evading rifle fire, SAMs and MIGs, the F-105 and the A-1 Skyraider "jocks" learn that "win equals live." To be shot down over North Vietnam is sometimes a trip to the "Hanoi Hilton." Two American Air Force "Aces" make aviation history--shooting down two MIGs in 90 seconds. This is the dramatic story of a daily routine punctuated by terror under constant fire, uncommon courage and unspoken heroism. This program includes historical footage and interviews with the people who know this story the best, the soldiers who fought it. This series first aired in October 1998 in six parts.
