The Side of Illinois's Largest Lake Most People Miss

Some places don’t need towering mountains, massive waterfalls, or famous landmarks to be worth exploring. Sometimes the best adventures are found in the quiet places most people pass by—the places that give us room to slow down, breathe, and appreciate what has been there all along. In this video, I’m exploring the northern side of Carlyle Lake in Illinois, an area that feels completely different from the busier portions of the lake. Because the water is shallower, most motorboats stay away, making it an ideal place to explore by paddleboard. The water was incredibly smooth, the lake was peaceful, and for much of the trip, it felt like I had the entire place to myself. There wasn’t a dramatic event or a major obstacle to overcome. This adventure was simply about getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoying a quiet morning on the water. Not every journey has to take us hundreds of miles from home.
