North Coast 500: A836 - Castletown to Thurso

The North Coast 500 is described as Scotland's answer to Route 66. It's a scenic route of just over 500 miles (800km) following the coast around the far north of mainland Scotland, starting and finishing at Inverness Castle. The A836 is one of Scotland longest roads, running for 122 miles (196km) from John O'Groats westwards through Thurso, forming the North Coast road until Kyle of Tongue, where it doglegs south through the Highlands, much of which is single-track with passing places, running to the A9 at the Dornoch Firth Bridge near Tain. The section from Bonar Bridge to the southern end used to be the A9 before the opening of the crossing of the Dornoch Firth opened. This video shows a westbound journey along the A836 from the B876 junction at Castletown to the A9 junction to the east of Thurso - the largest town on the North coast of Great Britain.
