Water levels have risen high enough to submerge more than half of vehicle wheels, making traffic difficult. Since dawn today (the 26th), Japan has been experiencing heavy rain centered around Osaka and Kyoto due to the influence of the rainy season front, resulting in a surge of damage including flooded roads and landslides. Level 4 warnings, indicating a risk of flooding, were even issued at one point for some rivers in Osaka and Kyoto. As Typhoon Mekala (Typhoon No. 7) and Typhoon Higos (Typhoon No. 8) successively move northward toward the archipelago, Japan is expected to enter the full impact zone starting tomorrow (the 27th). With the ground weakened, particularly in northern Honshu, following a magnitude 7.2 earthquake yesterday, concerns are growing regarding additional damage, such as landslides. The Japan Meteorological Agency has forecast that up to 300mm of additional rain will fall in many areas by noon tomorrow (the 27th). With flights being canceled one after another, special caution is required for those traveling in the Osaka and Kyoto areas or planning a weekend visit.
