Grigoriy M Akselrod

Grigoriy Akselrod, age 74, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 24, 2026, after a months-long battle with a debilitating illness. Grigoriy was born in Minsk, Belarus, on May 14, 1952. He served in the Soviet Army for two years in a tank battalion and earned a bachelor's degree in engineering at a top technical college. Grigoriy then moved to Moscow, Russia, to marry Alla Akselrod (née Lochmanchuk), the woman with whom he shared a life of love and devotion until she passed away after an illness in 2018. In 1995, to seek a better future, Grigoriy and Alla immigrated to Chicago with their two children, as well as Alla's mother, Mara. Grigoriy will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather whose unwavering love for his family was evident in everything he did. To his friends, he will be remembered for his loyalty, talent for all things technology (he was affectionately referred to as "The Professor"), and wonderful sense of humor. His kindness and quiet strength touched the lives of everyone who knew him. Whether offering thoughtful advice, sharing a laugh, or putting the needs of others before his own, Grigoriy lived a life defined by integrity, generosity, and compassion. Grigoriy was a loving and dedicated father to Mayya (Anthony) Woodall and Vadim Akselrod, and a proud and cherished grandfather to Joshua Anthony Woodall and Eliana Pearl Woodall, who brought him immense joy. His legacy of love, resilience, and dedication to his family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
