Press, Don't Chase! Organized Pressing in 7v7 (2-3-1)

Most youth teams "press" by sending everyone at the ball and hoping for a turnover. That's not pressing — that's the Charge of the Light Brigade. It's teaching your kids exactly the wrong habits for 9v9 and 11v11. In Episode 7 of the 7v7 Refresh series, I break down how to run a real, organized press - where every player has a role and the team works as a unit to force predictable play and win the ball back. Some people feel it's not fair to teach pressing at this age; players are inexperienced, it's easy to force mistakes - it feels wrong. My point is by teaching it the right way, once again you're setting up your players for success long term - this isn't swarm ball - this is a set of roles and responsibilities that grows as your player grow through the years into the full 11v11 game. We cover three levels of pressing so you can meet your team where they are: The Structured Press - positional roles for every player on the field The Advanced Press - splitting your nine and eight to cut time and space even further The Counter Press - winning the ball back immediately after you lose it in the attacking half Plus: the one mistake teams make on keeper saves that gives up easy goals — and how to train your striker to fix it. 0:00 – Kick-off: Why Pressing Matters (and Why Most Teams Get It Wrong) 1:38 – What NOT to Do: The Charge of the Light Brigade 2:30 – Structured Press: Roles by Position 3:12 – Wingers: Stay on Your Opposite Number 3:47 – The Curved Run: Cut the Field in Half 4:29 – The 8, Center Backs & Keeper in the Press 6:18 – Advanced Press: 9 & 8 Swap Roles 10:25 – Keeper Saves: Ball is Live - Don't Back Up! 11:38 – Counter Press: Winning the Ball Back in Their Half 13:27 – Summary & What's Next Full Channel:    / @soccercoachkw   Buy an AI camera that doesn’t break the bank - and help out my town program at the same time! https://partner.reeplayer.com/soccerc...
