Gender-nonconforming and polyamorous before it was a “thing,” 83-year-old Rev. Goddess M. Kennedy has self-love coming out of her pores—despite facing a lifetime of adversity for being unapologetically Black and gay. Coming of age in the 1940s, Rev escaped her mother's ploy to either convert her or institutionalize her for her sexuality, and instead became an unstoppable leader in the Stonewall Revolt that launched the gay rights movement and a Black Panther Party activist. But most inspiring of all is Rev’s ability to maintain a sense of joy no matter how evil the world has been to her at times. One of the most magnanimous, big-hearted, exuberant souls we’ve ever had the honor of sharing space with, at 10:28 , Rev shares in song, “This joy that I have. The world didn’t give it to me...
