A high-quality keris can stand on its pointed end and vice versa. This is not a mystical power, but can be explained logically by a high level of balance. Scientific calculations of balance can be studied with great precision. Even when crafting a keris, the mpu (master craftsmen) use traditional measurements. The process of creating a keris requires several stages, from selecting the metal to being fitted into the danganan (sheath) and placed in the warangka (sheath). Each stage requires specialized skills and, of course, skilled personnel of varying levels. Modern standards and certification of skills are essential. Not all keris-making processes can be scientifically proven. There are non-physical and non-material elements, but spiritual elements, with their rituals, that can impart powers beyond reason.
