博多祇園山笠2025　八番山笠「上川端通」

This year marks the 784th anniversary of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa, a summer tradition in Hakata. On July 1st, gorgeously decorated Yamakasa (floats) over 10 meters tall are erected all over the city, and the streets of Hakata instantly erupt into Yamakasa mode. The climax of the festival is undoubtedly the Oiyama (chasing Yamakasa) on July 15th. The Kakiyama (carrying Yamakasa), weighing one ton, is carried all the way down the pure path leading to Kushida Shrine, the guardian deity of Hakata, and then circles around, carrying on with momentum as it bursts out into the city at dawn. KBC Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting has been promoting the appeal of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa for over 60 years, since its first nationwide broadcast of the Oiyamakasa in 1960, the year after the launch of its television station.
