On Sunday, MMA met men’s health and something special happened. Jake McHugh ( @jakemchughmma ) organised the inaugural OddsBalls Open Mat at Next Gen MMA in Liverpool, bringing together the combat sports community to raise money and awareness for the OddsBalls Foundation — the UK’s leading charity fighting testicular cancer. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 15–49. It’s highly treatable when caught early. Yet stigma, silence, and a lack of awareness still cost lives. Jake knows this firsthand. His own personal journey inspired him to go beyond raising awareness — to actively educate people on the importance of regular self-checks, early detection, and breaking down the barriers around men’s health conversations.
