1974 Alpine Championships - "Making it Big" by Brian Sisselman & Christopher Goss
This digitized film (16 mm) features Vail during the 1974 Alpine Championships. The footage shows the slalom final event, Copper Mountain/Vail Nationals, practicing the downhill course, Vail Village, and the North American Junior Alpine Championships. The film also explores what downhill requires both physically and mentally. It shows a 2.5 mile course at speeds of 70mph, John Higgins wearing a camera on the downhill course, and a lower course called Adios. The Copper Mountain Women's Giant Slalom is captured and Debbie Hanley talks about how giant slalom should be done. The film was recorded March 13-16, 1974. On periodic Fridays, the Museum will share digitized film footage from our video archive in hopes of making our collection more accessible and discoverable.
