Today, I am bringing you my dedicated, honest 4-star review of The Two-Week Curse by Michael Chatfield, the book that kicks off the massive Ten Realms series. After absolutely loving my time with this one during my weekly wrap-up, I wanted to sit down and do a deeper dive into what makes this military-portal-meets-cultivation story work so well, and a few specific elements that held it back from being a perfect 5-star read. In this dedicated review, I am breaking down: The Ultimate Dynamic Duo: Why the brotherhood, military discipline, and banter between ex-combat medic Erik and Marine sniper Rugrat completely carried this story for me. Their bond is the absolute heartbeat of the book. The 12-Page Speedrun: My honest thoughts on the first 3 chapters. Clocking in at just 12 pages, the setup feels incredibly rushed, and I'll explain why it almost threw me off before the real story even started. The Crafting & City-Building: Where the book pivots heavily into resource management and base building. While I love earned progression, some of these sections felt a bit too long and drawn out, slowing down the high-octane action. The Verdict: Despite its pacing flaws, the magic system, tactical logic, and character chemistry mean I am confidently continuing with this series.
