Federal Signal STH-10A, Alert, (Old Tappan, New Jersey)

Do not under any circumstances copy or reuse my video without my permission! Violators will be reported immediately! After waking up at around 6:00 in the morning to get ready for our own local ceremony and parade, I realized that it was really raining where we were, and a cancellation was likely for parades in other places. I remember reading and discovering that Old Tappan, NJ would sound their siren at 8:15 AM if the ceremony was to be moved indoors. Needless to say, I grabbed my rain jacket and my umbrella as well as my recording stand and dashed for the car. I just made it there with about 5 minutes to spare till the siren was supposed to sound if the parade was canceled and the ceremony moved indoors. I quickly set up my camera and began waiting until 8:15 rolled around, when someone from the town walked into the building and activated the siren manually. The siren sounded very healthy with no problems at all with it, other than the very long wind down, which I couldn't take anymore after 5 minutes of inaudible wind down. It was definitely a polarizing feeling knowing that the parade was canceled. However, at least the ceremony would continue indoors, and everybody would still be able to memorialize those who have given their lives. Now the bigger challenge is getting back to my hometown in time for our ceremony and parade. I still was able to march in a parade in my hometown, so everything worked out in the end, even though the surprise siren sounding in a town quite a distance away almost threw a wrench into my plans.
