Part 2 of our two-day Hauraki Gulf adventure! After an action-packed start chasing chaotic spring workups, we’ve left the birds and bait balls behind and woken up in one of New Zealand’s most iconic fishing locations — Great Barrier Island. With bad weather on the horizon, we make the most of the calm before the storm, heading into the shallows to find hungry snapper that are well and truly on the chew. It’s shallow water softbaiting at its finest — clear water, heavy structure, and hard-fighting fish. We’re also putting some serious gear to the test, including the new Daiwa Certate reel paired with the Saltiga LC rod — and they get a proper workout on some solid Barrier reds.
