Ms. Hilliard is totally dedicated to her music, as well as committed to teaching it. Seeking to broaden her musical perspective, she plans a visit to her friend Herbert Benham, the conductor of the New York Symphony hoping to gain some new insights from him. But on her train ride, she bumps into the charming, and attractive Barry Clayton, who’s on his way north with his band. When he plays a trendy song for her, she’s so taken aback that she runs off, as her academic background has not equipped her to appreciate such music. The core concept of "Do You Love Me," directed by Gregory Ratoff, revolves around the captivating dynamics between two major icons of the time: Harry James and Dick Haynes. The film is significantly enhanced by the stunning Maureen O'Hara, who becomes the focal point of affection for these two renowned figures. We watch as Professor Hilliard is transformed from a dowdy frump into a glamorous woman with a great wardrobe. Ms. O'Hara, with her charming personality, wins the viewer's hearts as well as her suitors. The evolution of Professor Hilliard is striking as she shifts from a drab appearance to a sophisticated woman with a fabulous wardrobe. Maureen O'Hara captivates the audience with her delightful charm, and personality, winning over both viewers and admirers alike. It's important to remember that she has an intellectual boyfriend, Ralph Wainwright, back at college, ready to take their relationship to the next level. Reginald Gardiner shines as Herbert Benham, the kind conductor who advises Katherine to focus on her fashion choices. Richard Gaines portrays Ralph, the man she has left behind. The music, whether it's classical or popular, is pretty great. When you hear some of these songs performed by the amazing Dick Haynes, they really shine. Harry James even plays at the end with the classic orchestra and integrates some of his arrangements. The combination is surprising. This film is an enjoyable experience, largely due to the performances of the main cast and Mr. Ratoff's direction.
