S1 - Building a Saberwing Airplane! Day 1 - Unpacking

There are many kit plane choices available, and after carefully researching and planning various kits, I decided on the Saberwing. I seriously contemplated building the new Rans S21 Outbound, and if it weren't for the huge backlog and time frame to get the order, I likely would have purchased that one. Another absolute favorite airplane of mine is the Waiex. I love the look, the design, the durability, but I really wanted to fit a decent IFR panel in, as well as take a friend and baggage along, and that just wasn't going to work. I still see a Waiex in my future. After much deliberation, I did decide to go with the tricycle gear versus the tail dragger. The primary reason is that I have zero tail dragger time, and I won't be doing any planned beach or off-field landings with this one. So trike it is! I'm still debating on an engine choice, and really would like to be in the 160 - 200 HP range. This will make this plane an absolute rocket, but more importantly, enhance the climb performance significantly. Being in the desert, we have some crazy high density altitudes in the summer months, and having the extra usable horsepower increases the safety margin significantly.
