Teacher Hero - A Documentary by Byann Price

Teacher Hero follows Ms. LeBron, a pre-K special education teacher in Bushwick, Brooklyn, as she shares the challenges of navigating the education system while advocating for children who need critical support and services. Through her perspective, the documentary sheds light on the realities many educators face when working to ensure that every child receives the resources and opportunities they deserve. This project is deeply personal to me. Bushwick is the community where I grew up, and the issues explored in this film are ones I have witnessed firsthand through the lens of both a student and an educator. As someone connected to Title I schools and communities that have historically faced barriers to educational resources, I wanted to tell a story that highlights the dedication of teachers who continue to show up for their students despite systemic challenges. I would like to extend a special thank you to my professor, Umbreen Butt, whose guidance challenged me to think critically, ask deeper questions, and approach storytelling with purpose and intention. Thank you to Ms. LeBron for sharing her story and for the work she does every day in service of her students and community.
