Here’s why old American cars all had the same headlights

In this episode I provide the history of car headlight regulations that forced all cars sold in the U.S. to use the same headlights starting in 1940. These rules were only relaxed slightly by allowing smaller quad headlights in 1957, and square headlights in 1975. It wasn't until Ford convinced the U.S. government to allow composite headlights on their 1983 Lincoln Mark VII that headlight design, and overall car design, changed forever, and for the better.
