Reading and Northern 2102: Fall Foliage 2025!

On October 18, 2025, I chased Reading & Northern steam locomotive #2102 as it powered one of the year’s most anticipated events — the Fall Foliage Excursion through the heart of Pennsylvania. Departing from Reading Outer Station, this massive 4-8-4 T-1 class locomotive thundered northward, cutting through brilliant autumn landscapes on its journey to Jim Thorpe. Against a backdrop of peak fall color, the train steamed past river valleys, rock cuts, and wooded hillsides glowing in shades of gold, orange, and crimson. With every whistle echoing through the countryside and plumes of white steam rising into the crisp October air, #2102 delivered a picture-perfect railroading experience that paid homage to the golden age of steam.
